FAQs

Mid-19th-century Victorian tables typically reflect functional elegance, often utilising dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany with minimal yet refined detailing, straight or turned legs, and practical storage drawers.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, featuring traditional hand-cut joinery such as dovetails in the drawer construction and pegged mortise and tenon frames.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct timber characteristics, hand-planed surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, cast brass hardware with appropriate oxidisation, and signs of age-related patination.

Pairing this traditional dark wood piece with modern minimalist decor, abstract art, or neutral textiles creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich timber tones without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
