FAQs

Early 20th century furniture encompasses movements such as Arts and Crafts, Edwardian, and early modernist designs, often prioritising functional forms and traditional timber construction over heavy Victorian ornamentation.

These tables were typically crafted from solid hardwoods like English oak, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed surfaces, and natural wax or shellac finishes.

Authentication relies on examining timber grain, tool marks, joinery techniques, and natural wear patterns on the wood, along with checking for period-appropriate hardware and construction inconsistencies indicative of modern manufacturing.

Pairing a traditional wooden table with contemporary upholstery or minimal accessories creates a balanced interior, allowing the historical timber texture to add warmth and contrast to neutral spaces.

Maintain oak furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
