FAQs

Wine tables, also known as candle stands or occasional tables, emerged in the 18th century as small, portable furniture pieces designed to hold beverages, books, or lighting instruments in domestic settings.

These tables are traditionally constructed from hard-wearing timbers such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring turned central pillars and tripod base supports joined using traditional carpentry techniques.

Authenticity is evaluated through timber patination, tool marks, hand-cut joinery, wear patterns around the base and top, and consistency with historical manufacturing techniques of the era.

Such pieces function well as compact accent surfaces next to modern armchairs or sofas, offering functional utility while introducing historical warmth and texture to the space.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying appropriate natural waxes to nourish the timber surface without causing damage.
