We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The Empire style emerged in early 19th-century France, drawing heavily from classical Greco-Roman motifs, featuring heavy architectural forms, dark woods, and restrained ornamentation.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised dense native and exotic timbers such as mahogany, cherry, and walnut, often accented with gilt bronze mounts and inset marble tops.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-correct joinery, traditional hand-turned or carved structural elements, aged timber patination, and construction methods consistent with early 19th-century craftsmanship.

This piece works well as a focal point in an entryway or living room, paired with minimalist modern accessories to highlight its classical proportions and rich timber grain.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
