A slipware bird whistle is a traditional folk instrument made from clay, decorated with liquid clay slip and glaze, and designed to produce a whistling sound when blown.

These items were typically hand-modelled from local earthen clays, finished with a liquid slip trail for decoration, and coated in a transparent lead glaze before firing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-thrown or hand-modelled inconsistencies, period-appropriate crazing in the glaze, historical wear patterns, and traditional regional clay signatures.

Display the piece on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or glass cabinet as a standalone sculptural object to highlight its historical craftsmanship and folk art character.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, handle with clean hands to avoid moisture transfer into the porous clay body, and dust gently with a soft dry cloth.
