Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An 18th century mahogany card table is a foldable piece of furniture specifically designed for parlour games like whist, featuring a hinged top that opens to reveal a baize-lined surface and often corner wells for counters.

These tables were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like oak or pine, utilising traditional joinery such as tenon and mortise frames and specialized hinges for the fold-over top.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, period-correct hardware, hand-carved details such as cabriole legs with pad or ball-and-claw feet, and natural patina accumulated over centuries.

An antique card table can be placed against a wall in a living room or hallway as a console, styled minimally with a table lamp or a ceramic vase to contrast its historical timber tones with contemporary decor.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and maintain the finish using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
