Interesting late 19th century tribal club,c1890. The phallic/mushroom shape of the head and the stepped grip is very typical of clubs used by the Kanak, who the indigenous Melanesian people of New Caledonia, a small group of islands in the southwest pacific. The wood has great colour and just the right amount of wear to indicate use over many years. There is a small hole in the grip end ,presumably for a strap to be inserted. Overall condition is good with no obvious issues.
