A wonderful example of a Georgian period door knocker in brass that was once gilded. The design is typically Neoclassical in influence, based around a paterae. The centre of the knocked is a finely chased floral motif surrounded by beaded moulding. The knocker is mounted at the top with an acanthus leaf and at the base, to add extra weight to the knock, with a shell. The piece is attached in the photos to a wooden display board and would be easily removed and mounted onto a door. The whole is an extremely unusual design and in an extra-large size.
