A fishing priest is a traditional wooden or metal club used by anglers to humanely dispatch a caught fish quickly. The terms origin is playfully attributed to administering the last rites.

Priests were predominantly turned from dense hardwoods such as boxwood, lignum vitae, or fruitwood to ensure sufficient weight and durability.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned lathe marks, natural patina from handling, minor wear consistent with age, and dense, traditional timber species.

Display smaller treen objects on bookshelves, display cabinets, or side tables as sculptural curiosities that add organic warmth and historical texture to a room.

Keep wooden treen out of direct sunlight and away from central heating vents. Occasionally apply a microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain and protect the surface.
