FAQs

Folk art furniture is characterised by unpretentious craftsmanship, often created by self-taught artisans or local craftspeople using regional materials, resulting in unique utilitarian objects with distinct decorative character.

These pieces typically utilised native timbers such as pine, oak, or fruitwoods, combined with hand-cut inlays, marquetry motifs, pegged joints, and simple hand-turned or shaped supports.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patina of the wood, hand-tool marks, period-appropriate fixings, natural shrinkage over time, and consistency of wear patterns commensurate with age.

Positioning the piece as a standalone accent table allows its distinct surface decoration and handmade texture to serve as a focal point against minimalist backdrops or paired with clean-lined modern seating.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the wood finish, and dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth without applying harsh chemical polishes.
