Fine quality early 20th century African axe on handmade stand,c1920. Most likely from the Mossi tribal area, Burkina Faso, the axe is of traditional design and form with hand carved wooden shaft and hand forged metal axe head. This is an intricately decorated prestige piece which would be for ceremonial use. The stand is later but was clearly designed as a bespoke piece to display the axe. Overall condition is good with no obvious defects.
