Curious Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Cassowaries are one of the largest indigenous species of Papua New Guinea and their bones have been used for centuries by local tribes for weapons and implements. There is a handwritten label which says 'Casuaris bone dagger upper Sepik Papua New Guinea old missionary collection'. The bone has taken on nice colour/patina and overall condition is good. On the inside it has been marked PY which I assume was the initials of a previous owner.
