Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Scandinavian country occasional table is constructed from pine with a painted finish. The piece has an oversailing three-plank top in light brown timber with scraped paint layers, paired with a white painted apron and four cabriole legs. Visible details include a distressed paint finish with black showing through underneath, obvious losses to the paintwork, and minor surface marks to the woodwork. The rectangular table measures 77.7 cm high, 96.5 cm wide, and 75 cm deep. Practical for everyday use, this functional table serves multiple purposes around the home. It functions well as a hall table, a side table, at the end of a sofa, or as a small kitchen table.

FAQs

Scandinavian painted pine furniture originated in Northern Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries, characterised by functional woodwork coated in light paint finishes to maximize natural light during dark winter months.

These pieces are crafted primarily from soft pine timber using mortise and tenon joinery, topped with layered paint finishes, such as milk paint, which wear down over time to reveal the bare wood beneath.

Authentic examples exhibit genuine paint erosion on areas of frequent contact, such as table edges and surfaces, along with historical paint layers visible beneath the top coat.

Place the table beside contemporary neutral upholstery or within a hallway setting to introduce textural variation against modern minimalist surfaces.

Clean the surface with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding damp sponges, harsh detergents, or solvent cleaners that can strip original paint finishes.
