Description

A good small pair of letter scales by the very famous Sampson Mordan, the most highly sought-after maker, signed on the front, S.Mordan & Co. London.

The base is made from Mahogany and houses the set of four solid cast weights. The letter pan is engraved with the postal rates at the time of manufacture, this enables us to date them to between 1871 - 1885.

Excellent condition having been professionally re-polished to gleam. Four small cork supports added to protect desk-top were added by the previous owner. The base has a footprint measuring 6 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 3 1/4" tall.
