Antique Taxidermy Horse Hoof Silver Plated Vesta Match Holder

1900 - 1920
Description

A fine example of an Antique Horse's Hoof which has been made into a match striker / holder with a silver plated mount. It dates from the early 20th Century and is extremely well made. The mount is nicely shaped and delicately engraved to look like hair around the top of the hoof. The hoof itself is also mounted to a silver plated shoe. The hinged lid opens to reveal a lined compartment for storage matches and on the underneath of the lid is a scored shield shape which would allow for striking a match.

It is in good condition for its age and displays very nicely. The hoof is a good large size with a nice patina and shine. There are some natural marks and small losses but no major damages. The mount is in good condition with just some small dinks and dents and one missing tack but nothing detrimental.
