Forster's Life of Dickens, 13 of Dicken's Novels and Some of His Short Stories Contained in 15 Uniformly Bound Books 1867-1875

19th century
Description

Comprising all but one of Dicken's 15 novels, some of his short stories and a uniformly bound illustrated book containing 2 volumes covering the author's life by John Forster. The missing novel is Dicken's first being The Pickwick Papers published in 1836. The works are from the Charles Dickens Edition which was published between 1867-1875.

A smart looking run bound in green polished half calf with marbled paper boards, end papers and page edges. The gilt decorated spines have 6 compartments formed by 5 raised bands with two compartments containing red title labels with gilt lettering. Internally lightly aged toned, some foxing to the first and last few pages as well as the marbled fore edge, otherwise clean and tightly bound. Externally wear to the marbled paper especially to board edges, some light marks and light scuffing to leather and some loss of gilding. A smart looking run retaining good colour to the leather which has little evidence of fading.

Each volume is some 17.7 cm high, 13.3 cm deep and the whole has a shelf coverage of approximately 51 cm. The total unpacked weight is some 8.3 kg.
