13 Uniformly Bound Books by Charles Dickens Circa 1880

19th century
Description

Comprising all but two of Dicken's 15 novels as well as some of his short stories these works are from the Charles Dicken's Edition and whilst undated were published around 1880 by Chapman and Hall. The two missing novels are his first, The Pickwick Papers published 1836 and his last, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, published 1870. The 13 volumes contain the following works:-

Volume 2 - Nicholas Nickleby; 3 Dombey & Son; 4 Oliver Twist/Uncommerical Traveller; 5 Barnaby Rudge; 6 Old Curiosity Shop; 7 David Copperfield; 8 Martin Chuzzlewit; 9 Christmas Books/American Notes; 10 Bleak House; 11 Little Dorrit; 12 Great Expectations/Hard Times; 13 A Tale of Two Cities/Sketches by Boz; 14 Our Mutual Friend.

Attractively bound in maroon half calf with gilt decorated spines arranged as 6 compartments by 5 raised bands. The boards, end papers and page edges are all marbled.

Externally the spines are a little sun faded whilst the gilding remains sharp and fresh in the main. There is some bumping to corners and wear to extremities and some marks and the marbled paper to the edges of the boards is well worn in numerous places. Internally the pages are age toned and there is regular light foxing and heavy foxing tot he first and last few pages generally. A smart looking run.

Each volume is some 17.8 cm high, 13.5 cm deep and the whole has a shelf coverage of approximately 42 cm.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
