These five books, whilst undated, are from around 1900 and contain 6 of Fielding’s novels, Tom Jones covers 2 volumes and The History of the Life of the Late Mr Jonathan Wild the Great and A Journey from this World to the Next share a volume. The other works are Amelia and Joseph Andrews. The books are bound in polished half calf with the spines arranged as 6 compartments with 5 raised bands are gilt decorated and the boards are cloth covered. The paste downs and end papers are marbled. Published by George Routledge and Sons.

Externally there are some marks and scuffs, the spines are somewhat sun faded and some parts of the cloth to the boards is grubby. Internally tightly bound and clean albeit with some age toning and occasional foxing. The front paste down on 3 volumes has been removed with the resultant loss of some colouring to the marbled paste downs. The other two volumes contain the book plate and family crest for David Simson of Ickleford Manor with the motto Profunda Cernit translating to ‘Deep Down.’
The books measure approximately 21.7cms high, 14.9cms deep and between 3.5 and 4.2cms wide and a total shelf coverage of some 19.7cms.
