Description

Sir Walter Scott, the Scottish novelist and poet (1771-1832), is considered by many as having established the historical novel genre with his works set in various centuries although focusing predominately around the 17th and 18th centuries. This 'New Popular Edition' is complete in 5 volumes and was published between 1890-1892 by Adam & Charles Black and printed by Morrison and Gibb.

Uniformly bound in polished green half calf with red morocco title labels to the second compartment of the gilt decorated spines. The paste downs as well as the end page edges are marbled. Each volume is 23.2cms high, 16cms deep and the combined shelf coverage of the set is some 23.5cms.

Externally there are some marks and scuffs, particularly to the extremities and there is some sun fading to the spines. Internally they are tightly bound, age toned and with foxing mostly limited to the marbled page edges.
