A small cage door opens in the bas3e so you can place a wad of wool inside which is then measured for the water content by the two fixed thermometers either side. The thermometers are mounted onto milk glass that says, Difference Between Dry & Wet Bulbs allowed by Cotton Cloth Factories Act. A fabulous, rare survivor from the English wool trade.
