Taxidermy - A Pair of Kingfishers by P Spicer of Leamington Circa 1897-1904

Description

A Pair of Kingfishers in a Snow scene with a fine water colour back drop all of un paralleled success with an ebonized frame and gilt metal braided trim. The remains of his trade label “Mounted by Peter Spicer Victoria terrace Leamington” can be found pasted to the rear of the case. This taxidermy is by the great man himself ‘Peter Spicer’. From 1904 the business was reformed to include ‘& Sons’ and the label changed.

For more information see “A Record of Spicer’s” published in 2001 by myself, a book covering this remarkable, and in my opinion the greatest Victorian taxidermy firm.
