A Broadhurst Clarkson Stalking Telescope

1900 - 1920
Description

A Broadhurst Clarkson and Co stalking telescope on an adjustable tripod stand. The telescope dates from the early part of the 20thC probably circa 1910. It is in excellent condition with very good clear powerful optics. The three brass draws pull out firmly and smoothly. The main barrel is leather clad and has an excellent patina with perfect stitched seam. Two leather lined jaws grip the telescope and are tightened with a brass 'T' screw. This grips the scope firmly but gently and allow the scope to move vertically. The brass mount enables it to rotate on its thread through 90 degrees horizontally. The tripod stand is of Helio design and has oak legs one of which is stamped B C and Co. When dismounted the telescope has two leather end caps linked by a leather carrying strap all with perfect stitching. The stand folds making it easily portable. Possibly in use by the military previously.

The telescope is 75 cm long fully open and about 4.6 cm in diameter at the objective lens end. It stands about 104 cm high when horizontal on the stand. The leg spread is about 85 cm. When closed the telescope is 25.5 cm long. and about 5.5 cm in diameter with the leather end caps on.
