Culvertons has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Its decorated tripod base is original, and the fine carved decoration is typical of this period. There are a few signs of early restoration, such as extra screws holding the bearers in place, but these are part and parcel of its history. Equally, there are contact marks that strongly suggest the top and the pedestal are original and not married together. Our restorers have also added another chapter by carrying out minor repairs and enhancing its surface.
