Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
Beautifully pierced or reticulated around the perimeter with two oval integral handles at each end.
The hinged lids are too plated and in perfect working order.
The underside is lucky enough to have both the makers mark of a bell for the silversmith Smith, Sissons & Co. of Sheffield. It also has the highly prized design registration lozenge which allows us to reasonably accurately to date the piece; on inspection the numbers and letters within the diamond has the registration date of 20th December 1866.
Quite exceptional and highly decorative in superb condition. Measures 13" x 7" and the inkwells standing 4" tall.
