Antique English Mahogany and Brass Postage / Letter Scales C.1900

Description

A beautiful set of postage scales sitting on a solid Mahogany base with a serpentine front, always very decorative.

The right hand side pan is engraved with the "Postal Rates For Letters" which makes it easier for us to date as these rates were introduced in 1897.

The scales are signed T.J. Smith, Son & Downes, London, always desirable to have a signed set. they are also marked "Warranted Accurate".

There are six solid brass weights ranging from 8oz down to 1/2oz. The recesses which hold the weights have been lined with new green baize, creating a good clean finish.

Excellent condition, measuring 9 1/2" wide x 5 1/2" deep x 4 3/4" tall.
