Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1750s.
A most appealing oval cannister shape with a slightly domed lid. All of the trim is made from solid sterling silver, unmarked which is common for this era. There is also a shield shaped mount to the front, which would be engraved with initials.
It can only be described as near mint condition (there is a minor interior hairline near the hinge, it doesn't go through the shell and is insignificant but mentioned for accuracy). Dating to circa 1770, this is a highly sought-after collectible. 4 7/8" tall with a footprint measuring 2 1/8" x 1 3/4".
