Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian industrial folding cobbler's foot measure is made from boxwood and brass with a warm brown colour. The piece includes a hinged centre fold, brass sliders, stamped numerical increments, and upright wooden stops at either end. The wood displays a natural polished finish with visible grain variations and aged patina around the metal hardware. The measure extends horizontally on a flat surface, with one triangular wooden stop angled upright on the left and a matching upright stop on the right, connected by a segmented wooden bar marked with scale increments and joined by a central brass hinge. Measuring 38 cm in length when unfolded and 23.5 cm when folded, this antique tool suits placement on an office desk or library display shelf as a decorative conversation piece.

FAQs

A cobblers foot measure is a specialised mechanical ruler used by shoemakers and cordwainers to determine precise foot dimensions for bespoke footwear production during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These measures were typically manufactured using dense hardwoods such as boxwood due to its dimensional stability and resistance to warping, accented with brass hinges, rule joints, and sliders for durability.

Authentic examples display hand-stamped or fine machine-engraved numerical calibrations in inches or shoe sizes, natural patina on the brass fittings, wear around the folding joints, and tight boxwood grain.

Small trade tools function as vignette accents when displayed flat on an office desk, styled within a bookshelf display alongside books, or showcased inside a shallow glass display case.

Keep the timber hydrated using a microcrystalline wax, avoid exposure to direct sunlight or humidity to prevent wood movement, and preserve the natural oxidisation on the brass fittings.
