This is a rare antique ship''s clinometer. An English, heavy brass maritime instrument by H. Hughes & Son of London, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
 
Delightful nautical instrument to indicate the pitch and roll of a ship
 
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
 
Heavy brass frame presents attractive golden tones
 
Large spirit level sits pleasingly within the centre of the frame
 
Annotated from the centreline of 0 degrees outwards to 45 degrees plus and minus
 
Quality vernier adjustment dial sits to the right hand side of the level
 
Engraved model name reads ''Col. C.P. Evelyn''s Patented Ships'' Clinometer''
 
Colonel Evelyn was a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club in the late 19th century
