Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Rococo Revival centre table dates from 1870 and is made from dark brown mahogany with original brass handles and casters. The piece has a shaped serpentine top with a moulded edge above a single long drawer featuring detailed carved decoration. Below, four carved cabriole legs with scroll feet connect via an arched stretcher base. Visible details include carved sides, fine joinery, and the warm sheen of the dark timber. The table stands 74 cm high, 100 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. Position this freestanding piece in the centre of a reception hall or drawing room to display lamps, books, or decorative objects. The finished back and detailed carved stretcher make it suitable for viewing from any angle in an English Country House interior. The functional drawer provides storage for small daily items while maintaining a refined profile.

FAQs

Victorian centre tables were designed to stand in the middle of a room or grand hall, finished on all sides with decorative carving, serpentine aprons, and shaped tops.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood, featuring hand-carved ornamentation, brass castors, and oak or pine internal drawer linings.

Look for hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass castors, genuine patination on the mahogany, and hand-carved architectural detailing consistent with 19th-century craftsmanship.

Position the piece as a focal point in a spacious entry foyer, behind a freestanding sofa, or as an accent table layered with contemporary ceramics and lamp lighting.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
