A Ww1 Ross London Military Telescope on Stand

1900 - 1920
Description

A powerful single draw quality telescope by Ross London bearing a comparatively low serial number (44043) mounted on a Ross London military tripod stand stamped 1908. The telescope is leather clad with nickel plated objective lens end and focusing draw. It probably dates to the late 1800's. There is a pull out sun shade and the objective lens has a detachable cap. The eyepiece has a lens cover slide. The leather covered barrel has some usage evidence (minor dents) but the leather is good and has a fine patina. It has good lenses without cracks or chips and it produces a clear well magnified image.

The stand rotates correctly and adjusts vertically via the U shaped barrel grip which is secured by a brass butterfly nut. The short turned oak legs are finished with iron feet. A previous owners name is stamped twice on the stand leg and head stock T.A. Barker.

Objective lens end 6cm diameter Eyepiece 4.5 cm

Fully extended length 88cm Compacted 63 cm Height on stand about 38cm.
