Fine Victorian Framed Painted Toleware Tray

A very decorative and unusually framed toleware tray. The circular tray is black in colour with a fine gilt Greek key border. The centre of the tray is beautifully painted with a still life of fruit and leaves, including grapes, plums, currants and raspberries. The tray has been wonderfully preserved by being framed and put under glass. The gilt frame is of very good quality and with all the original gilding, it only has a few small areas of repair. On the reverse is written: ‘T Lawley Snr 1872’ I think this is the artist who painted the tray and it was framed perhaps a little later. The whole has a great decorative appeal and period look and is ready to hang.
