Rare antique 19thC Ottoman Empire sherbet spoon with marine ivory bowl and coral handle with decorative silver bands. Length 22cm/8 3/4in, bowl 6cm x 4.5cm.
Superb original condition, no damage or repairs.
Sherbet (or Sharbat) consisted of a variety of sweet soft drinks flavoured with various spices and sometimes flowers which would be served chilled as fruit granita (which gave its name to French sorbet).
