Large Antique Brass Postal Letter Scales with Weights

1900 - 1920
Description

A lovely set of original antique Postal scales. They are a particularly large and good quality set. The scales themselves are brass and they are set on a good quality oak base. There is a plaque on the base with "Inland Letter Rates" and "Inland Parcel Rates". The scales come with a set of seven stacking brass weights weighing 16oz, 16oz, 8oz, 4oz, 2oz, 2oz and 1oz.

The set is in good original condition. They have been lightly cleaned and polished to retain their natural patina and aged look. The brass has tarnished with age and there are some small knocks and scuffs around the base but no major damage and they display very nicely. The scales appear to work as they should do but I have not tested them for accuracy and they are really being sold as a decorative item rather than an accurate scientific set of scales.
