Bound in period polished full calf with elaborately gilt decorated board edges and spines arranged in compartments by 5 raised bands with contrasting gilt decorated title labels. Marbled page edges and end papers and an initialed armorial bookplate with the Latin slogan “Suaviter Sed Fortiter” – mildly but firmly. The front blank preliminary has been removed, the plates and facing pages are a little foxed and there are some minor marks otherwise tightly bound and clean. Externally light bumping to corners, some marks and minor scuffing with some loss to gilding. A handsome set. The volumes are some 22.3cms tall, some 14.5cms deep and have a slight variation in width with volume I being about 3.8cms and volume II about 4cms. Combined un-packaged weight just under 2kgs.
