Large Antique Avery Mahogany & Brass Letter / Parcel Scale C.1900

Description

A wonderfully large pair of antique English letter / book & parcel scales sitting on a solid Mahogany base with a fabulous antique patina.

Most unusual with the set of towering solid brass weights sitting to the left hand side, all marked Avery original to the scale with the balance marked Avery too.

The weights range from 1lb to 1/2oz. The scale pan is engraved with the postage rates of the period including the book rate (scales with this are certainly harder to find). The rates allow us to date the scales reasonably accurately as these rates were introduced in 1897, making this a late Victorian or early Edwardian example.

Large, impressive and showy, the brass has been professionally re-polished to gleam. Excellent condition, measuring 11" x 7" x 6" tall.
