A late 19th Italian grand tour centre piece, Capitoline Doves also known as the Doves of Pliny. Carved sienna marble square section, stepped base, socle and bowl mounted with four carved, detachable alabaster doves. C1880 There are some old repairs to the birds please see images. Classical image based upon a floor mosaic found in 1737 at the villa of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (2nd century AD )
