Georgian Neoclassical Drawing on Wood

A very unusual and highly decorative neoclassical drawing worked on a paper-thin piece of timber. The drawing is of a stunning quality and depicts a statue of what is most likely to be the goddess Diana with a seated greyhound. The work is drawn on a thin piece of cedar and I think is probably Italian. The piece is in good condition though it has shrunk slightly in its mount. The bird’s eye maple frame is the original and has a great patina and colour, it does have some slight losses around the edges. The whole is the most unusual and decorative piece of Georgian artwork with a wonderful country house appeal and is ready to hang. C.1800.
