Antique English Wooden & Polished Brass Postal / Letter Scale C.1900

Description

A charming set of Victorian postage scales standing on a fruitwood plinth, which in turn stands on three turned bun shaped feet.

The brass has all been professionally polished to gleam including the set of five weights to the front, complete with the rarely found 1/4oz bell shaped weight.

The pan in engraved with the postal rates, always highly desirable compared to the ones without this, this one also includes the " Book Post " rate, which is not often found included. These rates were actually introduced in 1897 so enabling us to date them reasonably accurately to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period.

Excellent condition, measuring 8" x 4 1/2" x 4" tall.
