Description

Thomas Arnold (1795 – 1842) was an English educator, historian and headmaster of Rugby School from 1828 to 1841, where he introduced a number of reforms that were widely copied by other prestigious public schools. His reforms redefined standards of masculinity and achievement. Arnold's Sermons are printed as they were preached in the Chapel of Rugby School.

This attractive uniformly bound 3 volume set has brown full calf polished bindings with gilt decorated edges to the boards, gilt decorated spines and title labels. Volume I is a third edition published by Rivington of London in 1832, Volume II is a second edition published by Fellowes of London in 1834 as is Volume III which is a first edition.

Externally the books are in very good antiquarian condition with some marks and light scuffing. Internally they are tightly bound and generally clean and bright save for some foxing in places in each volume.

All volumes are approximately 22.2cms high, 14.2cms deep widths of 2.7cm, 3.1cms and 2.9cms for Volumes I, II and III respectively.
