Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Tunbridgeware is the form of decorative inlaid woodwork, typically in the form of boxes etc., which originated in the Kent towns of Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
Essentially this was a cottage industry with nine makers in Tunbridge Wells and one in Tonbridge. By 1880 the numbers declined; the only survivor (which closed in 1927) was Boyce, Brown & Kemp, who made this Deskstand.
