Superb Example of an 8 Day Marine Chronometer by Frodsham and Keen, Liverpool

Description

A wonderful example of 19th century marine timekeeping, by the leading maker Frodsham in partnership with Keen. The books show the dates of this working partnership to be 1856 to 1878.

Housed in a super burr walnut three tier case fully brass mounted with original lacquer

The dial numbered is 2733 which is also found on the movement and the bottom of the bowl.

Eight day marine chronometers such as this example where made for private yatchs.

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.
