Antique Treen Master Salt

18th century
Description

A mid 1700s stained Beech wood antique treen large salt. .It has a nicely stepped foot mirrored to the underside of the salt bowl. Lovely pole lathe markings inside the bowl from when the piece was turned. One minor shrinkage crack to the foot and a few nibbles to the rim.

It is a good size measuring 13.5cm h x 11.8cm w.

This master salt would have been placed on the table for the master of the house. Smaller salts would have been used for less important memebers of the household - a real piece of history.
