Rare 17th Century Walnut And Marquetry Candle Stand

An exceptionally rare late 17th Century Walnut and Marquetry Candle stand depicting four matched birds to the centre with foliage spouting from their beaks. The finely cut Marquetry panel made in contrasting light and dark woods is surrounded with a fine black and white stringing and further white line towards the edge with walnut cross banding in between. The edge is finished with a cross grained Walnut thumb mould. The finely turned Stem is made in Ash with the legs and block to the base made in solid Walnut.
 
The piece is in very good original condition having good colour and patina, the underneath surface is dry, clean and just as we like to see.
