We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The George III period spans the reign of King George III from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavy Palladianism to lighter, neoclassical designs influenced by cabinet makers such as Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite, and Thomas Sheraton.

Craftsmen of this era predominantly used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often supplemented with secondary woods such as oak or pine for drawer linings and internal frames, alongside brass fittings and castors.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, timber shrinkage appropriate to age, original or period-appropriate brass hardware, and hand-turned or carved legs showing tool marks consistent with manual woodworking techniques.

Pairing historical timber pieces with minimalist upholstery, modern lighting, and neutral walls creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the antique without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the polished surface.
