Impressive large scale pair of late C19th French ormolu mounted marble vases or cassolettes in the Louis XVI style.

Pair of large marble vases with boldly striated and contrasting figuring to the cream coloured stone , and extensive high-quality gilded bronze mounts . The fixed ‘lids’ with cast ‘berry’ style finials and cast ormolu rings , the bodies decorated with ‘ribbon-tied’ ormolu floral swags and a broad band of detailed ormolu depicting bacchanalian scenes .

The tapering ovoid bodies with detailed cast-ormolu handles depicting satyr heads festooned with laurels or vines . Raised on turned socle supports with ormolu decoration onto a square block base with cast ormolu rings .

In excellent original condition with no damage , repairs or losses . The ormolu having achieved a rich , aged patina .
