Description

The spine of this Large Folio Book is entitled ROMAN ANTIQUITIES AT CASTOR and is dated 1828. The frontispiece is printed 'The Durobrivae of Antonius Identified and Illustrated in a Series of Plates Exhibiting the Excavated Remains of that Roman Station in the Vicinity of Castor, Northamptonshire. Discovered by E.T. ARTIS, FSA, FGS. Printed for the Author and Sold by J. Cumberland, 19 Ludgate Hill: J. Rodwell, New Bond Street; and J.B. Nichols and Son, 25 Parliament Street. 1828'.

The Ex Libris plates refer to Mr. G.M. Lefever, Wisbech and William Peckover.

The overall condition of the Book is good. There are signs of wear and foxing. The main fault is the torn corner on Plate LX Mosaic Pavement, shown in the close-up photograph.

There are minor tears to the edges of three other pages,; the fold-out map, the Frontispiece and Plate VII - all of which are under 1inch in length.
