A most handsome Gillows design writing table of fine quality. Constructed using walnut and burr-walnut.
Mid Victorian c.1860.
The top is of rounded corner design, with the original brass gallery rail and inset mahogany writing surface. This is over an arrangement of two frieze drawers, with the original turned bun handles and beautifully figured burr-walnut fronts. Each drawer retains the original brass locks, having the Crown & VR patent stamp. The drawers are mahogany lined and of fine dove-tail construction.
Standing on elegant turned, reeded and tapering legs, terminating in the original brass castors.
The walnut has a rich warm colour, which contrasts beautifully with the darker rich mahogany inset top.
In excellent antique condition.
Very robust, solid, sturdy and strong.
