Quality Georgian Coquilla Nut Box in the Form of an Acorn.

Description

A good 19th century coquilla nut in the form of an acorn; a beautifully turned example, of plain design. The threaded lid opens to reveal the interior, likely to have been used for the storage of a nutmeg, being fashion for men of the period to carry a nutmeg in a pocket sized container with a grater to add freshly grated nutmeg to punch.

This example would never had had an integrated grater, with only the thread for the lid. This would have just been used to store the nutmeg.

A good 19th century coquilla nut in the form of an acorn; a beautifully turned example, of plain design.
