Large Victorian Needlework of Arabian Horses

A large and impressive needlework depicting a scene of Arabian horses. The needlework is very finely worked in wool and silk and is in excellent condition with no holes or tears. There are some great details with the horses harnesses being worked with beads, but the best things are the glass eyes on the horses which have even been given a fringing for eye lashes. The needlework is very unusual and while I have seen other Arabian horse scenes I have not seen one on this scale. There is as one would expect some fading but actually the colours are very good. The work is in the original really good quality rosewood frame which has great figuring and patina, it does however have some minor veneer loss but this actually does not stand out because of how strongly figured the rosewood is. The needlework has been remounted in its frame at some point and is ready to hang. This is a great piece of antique needlework which has a huge decorative appeal and country house feel. C.1860.
