A fine and decorative marble obelisk of unusual large size. The obelisk is made of the most beautifully figured marble with a multitude of colours in the veins. The obelisk is made from thick slabs of marble rather than solid, this is presumably to add to the decorative impact and to lessen the weight of such a large piece. The base has alternating layers of black basalt and yellow Sienna marble which adds a dramatic support to the main obelisk. The whole is in excellent condition and with the large size has a huge decorative impact. C.1900.
